1993 Corvette Production and Performance
| Model Year Highlights |
- The two major highlights for 1993 include the 40th Anniversary package and a major increase in power for the ZR-1's LT5 engine. The 40th Anniversary package included special Ruby Red Metallic paint, ruby red interior, special emblems, wheel center caps and power driver seat.
- The ZR-1's LT5 engine received a horsepower increase from 375 to 405 and an increase in torque from 370 lb-ft to 385 lb-ft. These increases were achieved by minor porting to the cylinder heads and valvetrain. Other changes included an electric EGR valve for improved emissions, platinum tipped spark plugs, Mobil 1 synthetic oil and four bolt main bearing caps. As a result, Car and Driver Magazine rated the 1993 ZR-1 to be the winner of the top speed category at 179 mph in their "10 Best" issue.
- New for 1993 was a Passive Keyless Entry system (PKE) which was a first for any production vehicle sold by GM. Upon approach, a battery operated key fob transmitter would disarm the security system, unlock the door and turn on the interior lights or lock them and arm the security system automatically when the key fob was brought within a certain distance to the car. Coupes were equipped with an antenna in the driver's side door and rear deck where as convertibles had antennas in both doors. The key fobs could be programmed to unlock only the driver side door or both the driver and passenger side door.
- The 1993 wheel design was now a "machined" wheel giving a polished finish rather than the previous model year's gray paint coating. Front wheel size for the base model decreased to 17 x 8.5 from 17 x 9.5 and the front size decreased from P275/40ZR-17 to P25545ZR-17. RPO Z07 received 17 x 9.5 wheels and P275/40ZR17 tires both front and back
- RPO Z07 was available with either automatic or manual transmissions and included RPO FX3, heavy duty suspension components and heavy duty brakes.
- RPO ZR1 included RPOs AC1, AC3, AQ9, C68, D4L, FX3, UJ6, U1F, and LT5 as well as a specially laminated "solar ray" windshield in order to keep interior temperatures down.
