Number: 83-81-24 - (03/03/1998)
Models: 1997 CHEVROLET CORVETTE

Condition:

SOME CUSTOMERS MAY REPORT ONE OR MORE DRIVEABILITY CONDITIONS WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT SET A MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) OR A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC).

Cause:

THE SERVICE LOOP OF THE WIRE HARNESS FOR THE PCM MAY BE INCORRECTLY ROUTED. THE HARNESS MAY RUB AT THE TOP FRONT CORNER OF THE PCM (SHOWN ON PAGE 6-942 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL, VOLUME 3). THIS CONDITION WAS CORRECTED IN PRODUCTION IN MAY, 1997 BY ADDING ADDITIONAL CONDUIT AND IMPROVING THE HARNESS ROUTING.

Correction:

REPAIR ANY CHAFFED OR CUT WIRES FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS IN SECTION 8 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL. ADD ADDITIONAL TAPE OR CONDUIT TO THE WIRE IN THE DAMAGED AREA AND SECURE THE HARNESS TO PREVENT ANY FURTHER DAMAGE.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
