This bulletin supplements TSB #508, DR #339, dated December 19, 1957 and includes the latest service information on Electric Windshield Wiper Motors used on 1958 Passenger Cars and Trucks.

MOTOR FAILS TO SHUT OFF OR BLADES DO NOT PARK PROPERLY

In some cases the wiper motor, after being shut off, may over travel the effective length of the parking cam and continue to run in a reverse direction.  This condition may occur even though the blades are properly positioned as covered in TSB #508, DR #359.

A parking spring has been released for production and service which enables the motor to shut off without depending on the resistance of the wiper blades.  The spring is designed to clear the revolving arm in the "ON" position and stop the arm in the "PARK" position when switch is turned off.  Figure #1 shows installation of parking spring.

RIGHT SIDE BLADE SLAP

If the right hand blade slaps against the moulding excessively even though the blade is correctly positioned and parks properly, the upper cam stop is probably bent or broken.  This damage can occur if the mechanism is coated with ice when the wiper is turned on.

A more durable replacement cam stop is available for service.  Figure #1 shows details of installation.  The existing tab must be bent flat before installation of the new stop.
