1969 - 1970 Corvette: Service Bulletin: Odometer Failures

Estimated Reading Time: 1 Minutes

Subject: Odometer Failures
Model and Year: 1969-70 Chevrolet
Source: Chevrolet Dealer Service Technical Bulletin
Bulletin Number: 70-T-27, Section XII
Date: April 30, 1970

TO:  ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

Some owners of 1969 or 1970 Chevrolets who operate their vehicles in extremely dusty areas may experience early odometer failures due to dust entering into the cluster which may settle on the transfer cogs and cause them to bind.

If odometer failures caused by dirt entry occur, an odometer kit with a dust shield should be installed.  This kit, Part No. 6496557, is available through United Motor Service for all 1969 and 1970 odometer replacements.  It includes the odometer, the dust shield and an instruction sheet.

IMPORTANT:  To comply with some local laws, the replaced odometer must be set to the same mileage as the actual mileage on the vehicle.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
