Subject: Glass Roof Panel Trim Molding Separation

Number: 79-T-7
Date: April, 1979
To: All Chevrolet Dealers
A few 1978-79 Corvettes equipped with the RPO CC1 glass roof panel may exhibit the condition of the vinyl trim molding separating from the glass panel.
The recommended service correction is application of a two part epoxy, such as 3M P/N 8640, or equivalent between the glass panel and the molding.
Procedure
- Remove the roof panel from the vehicle, but do not separate the glass from its frame.
- In the area to be bonded, clean both the molding channel and glass thoroughly with a dry cloth to remove dirt and loose adhesive.
- Mix epoxy as directed on package. Note cautions and curing time.
- Transfer the adhesive into a small plastic bag ("baggie") and twist to push the adhesive into a corner. Cut off this corner to provide the proper bead size of approximately 1/16 inch diameter.
- Apply a 1/16 inch diameter bead of adhesive into the molding channel, as illustrated, and place the channel firmly over the glass edge, allowing the excess adhesive to squeeze out.
- After the "squeeze out" becomes firm, remove it carefully with a dull blade.
- Allow approximately one hour cure time at room temperature before reinstalling the roof panel.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
