Subject: LOSS OF FRONT PUMP PRIME 350C TRANSMISSIONS
Model and Year: Early 1981 Corvettes
Source: Chevrolet Dealer Service Bulletin
Bulletin Number: 81-T-38

SOME 1981 CORVETTES AND CAMAROS WITH 350C (MX3) AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS MAY EXPERIENCE A MOMENTARY DELAY IN DRIVE RESULTING FROM LOSS OF FRONT PUMP PRIME. SINCE THIS DELAY CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY A LOW FLUID LEVEL, THE OIL FILL MUST BE VERIFIED BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY CORRECTIVE ACTION. IF THE TRANSMISSION HAS SUFFICIENT OIL AND THE CONDITION PERSISTS, PICK UP SCREEN P/N 6258504 SHOULD BE INSTALLED. THIS PART IS CURRENTLY IN SERVICE AS IT WAS USED IN 1980 TRANSMISSIONS. THE CHANGE WAS EFFECTIVE IN PRODUCTION ON 2-17-81 WITH TRANSMISSION DATE STAMP 157.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
