Some 1984 Corvettes may experience lateral side door movement with the side window rolled down.
To correct these vehicles, the following steps are to be performed:
DOOR GUIDE PIN IDENTIFICATION
Early built vehicles have 35mm (1 3/8") long door pin assemblies. If the vehicles is equipped with 35mm (1 3/8") long pins, it will be necessary to install pin assembly, P/N 14060282, which is a shorter design (25mm (1") long.)
NOTICE: Door pin replacement will require the removal of the door trim panel. Do not replace the door trim panel at this time.
DOOR GUIDE PIN SYSTEM ADJUSTMENT
Verify the plastic sleeve is installed in the pin locator assembly. With the vehicle door closed, loosen the locator three (3) attaching bolts (see Figure 1). The locator assembly is to be centered fore-aft and vertically on the door pin. Push the locator outboard to fully engage the door pin and tighten the locator attaching bolts to 11 N.m (8 ft. lbs.)
Check the door for lateral movement. If a satisfactory condition has not been achieved, the following steps are to be performed.
INSTALLATION OF P/N 14051108, HOOD BUMPER ASSEMBLY IN PLACE OF THE PRODUCTION DOOR OVERSLAM BUMPER
Some early built vehicles did not have overslam bumpers. if this is the case, it will be necessary to drill a 7mm (9/32") hole in the door (see Figure 2).
If the vehicle has overslam bumpers, remove the and discard the bumper(s) (one/door).
Replace the discarded production bumper(s) with bumper, P/N 14051108, attaching nut, P/N 11508276, and P/N 14072667, flat washers, which are to be used as bumper shims. The number of shims required will vary form vehicle to vehicle depending on "Build stacks".
Add shims (washers) between bumper and door, as required, to eliminate lateral door movement (see Figure 2). DO NOT "OVERSHIM" BUMPER.
Once shim pack has been established, tighten bumper retaining nut to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.) and check the door ajar lamp for proper operation. The door ajar switch is self-adjusting and cannot be reset.
If door ajar lamp does not turn off when door is fully closed or flashes on-off on rough roads, it will be necessary to replace the, P/N 14062556, switch assembly. Replace trim panels.
