Condition |
Some customers may comment on hearing a creak or snapping noise from the convertible top while driving their vehicle. The noise may be loudest when the vehicle has sat in the sun for a length of time. |
Cause |
The cause of the condition may be that the fasteners (1) at the ends of the #3 Bow (2) may have lost torque. |
Correction |
Following the Service Procedure below, remove the original smaller screws and install the new larger M6 screws referenced in the Part Table. |
- Service Procedure
Warning: Due to bleed off of the hydraulic pressure, the folding top will have to be supported or held in mid-position by an assistant. Manual operation of the top cannot be attempted for at least 5 minutes from the last time of activation.
- Power the folding top into the mid-open position.
- Position the top to best reach under the headliner to access the 3 retaining screws on each end of the #3 Bow.
Note: It will be necessary to use a small wrench or tool similar to the graphic example above, in order to access the screws.
Important: Replace the screws one at a time. DO NOT remove or loosen all 3 screws on one side, at the same time.
- Starting on either side, replace the current M5 retaining screws with the new M6 self threading screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 3 Y (27 lb in). - Repeat and replace the 3 screws on the opposite side.
- Ensure proper operation of the folding top.
