2005 GM gasoline engines require the use of an engine oil that has the American Petroleum Institute (API) Starburst and states that it meets GM Standard GM6094M (non-synthetic) or GM4718M (synthetic). Failure to use the recommended engine oil can result in engine damage not covered by warranty.
In the March 2005 issue, TechLink published a list of engine oil brands that meet GM Standard GM6094M and GM4718M. This list has be updated through April 12, 2005.
TIP: This list will be updated in the future as required. Download the latest PDF document on the left.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
