Source: Chevrolet Dealer Technical Service Bulletin
Number: 83-34-07 - (03/27/1998)
Models: 1997-98 CHEVROLET CORVETTE - BUILT PRIOR TO VIN BREAKPOINT W5120351

Condition

SOME CUSTOMERS MAY COMMENT ABOUT A MUFFLED CLATTER TYPE NOISE COMING FROM THE CENTER OF THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, JUST REARWARD OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS. THIS CONDITION IS MOST APPARENT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED AT LOW SPEEDS OVER AN IRREGULAR ROAD SURFACE WITH REPETITIVE SMALL BUMPS, SUCH AS A "RUMBLE STRIP".

Cause

CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY INTERNAL VALVE NOISE OF THE HYDRAULIC MOUNT ASSEMBLY BEING TRANSMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE BODY STRUCTURE.

Correction

REPLACE EXISTING REAR DIFFERENTIAL/TRANSMISSION MOUNT ASSEMBLY WITH A NEW ASSEMBLY, P/N 22178940, FOLLOWING THE SERVICE PROCEDURE AS OUTLINED IN THE SERVICE MANUAL, SECTION 4 (DRIVELINE/AXLE).

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
