1956 Corvette: Service Bulletin: Horn Relay Problems

Subject:  Horn Relay Problems
Model and Year: 1956 Passenger Cars
Source: Chevrolet Service Bulletin
Zone: #61 - Milwaukee
Bulletin No: 55-298-322
Date: November 2, 1955

All 1956 passenger cars that have been shipped to dealers to date plus additional units shipped before parts correction at plant either have the wrong horn relay installed or were shipped without a horn relay with the end of the wire taped.

This bulletin is to authorize replacement of all horn relays on 1956 passenger cars which do not have black paint identification marking on the base of the relay, (This is visible when mounted.) or stamped identification groove above the letter 12V on the base.  1955 horn relays may be used by reworking the mounting holes or Part Number 116913 Relay may be used if they are available.  A quantity of these new relays are now in stock in the Warehouses.

A technical service bulletin from Chevrolet Central Office will be issued giving Serial numbers starting production with the new relays as soon as information can be obtained.

It is highly important that these relays be replaced before delivery to the customers or eventually a short may cause an electric fire.

Very truly yours,

J.W. Campbell
Zone Service & Mechanical Manager

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
