The following sketch shows the various Oil Level Gauge Dipsticks used with the 1955 Powerglide Transmission.

POWERGLIDE TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK MARKINGS

1955 Corvette Engine Oil Level Dipstick

IMPORTANT - WHEN CHECKING OIL LEVEL

  1. Engine should be idling.
  2. Transmission control lever should be in the "N" position.
  3. Transmission oil should be HOT.
  4. Use the correct dipstick.
  5. Check the level accurately.

Overfilling the transmission may cause lubricant loss at the Filler.
