1987 Corvette Model Year Highlights

  • The L98 engine for the 1987 model year saw a 5 hp increase from last year's 235 hp aluminum cylinder head equipped engine.
  • The Z52 sport handling package appeared which incorporated various parts of the Z51 option with the softer suspension from the base model.  The Z52 option included a radiator boost fan and heavy duty radiator, engine oil cooler, Bilstein shock absorbers, 16 x 9.5 in. wheels, larger front stabilizer bars, 13:1 steering ratio and increased structural improvements from the convertible model.
  • RPO B2K, known as the Callaway Twin Turbo option was introduced this year and was installed at Callaway's shop in Old Lyme, Connecticut and not at the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, KY.  121 coupes and 63 convertibles were built with this option.  The engine was rated at 345 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque and came equipped with 0.60 overdrive gearing.  Top speed was reached at 177.9 mph.
  • The 1987 Corvette was picked as one of the world's top ten cars by Car & Driver magazine.
