In an update to this article, the Los Angeles Times is now reporting that Alex Demetro, the 28-year old who was driving the C6 Corvette that crashed and killed the CarMax salesman, is now a fugitive from justice.
Demetro was charged last week with one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, one count of driving under the influence of a drug and causing injury and one count of driving on a suspended license, according to San Bernardino County Superior Court records.
He was released from jail the next day after posting a $100,000 bail. He was scheduled to appear in court on March 7, but didn’t appear resulting in a warrant being issues for his arrest.

A lot of prospective Corvette customers come to Chevrolet dealerships expecting to be able to take a brand new Corvette for a test drive. Very few Chevrolet dealerships allow test drives and this may be the reason why.
Earlier today in Ontario, California, a CarMax used car salesman was killed when a C6 Corvette crashed during a test drive, and the prospective car buyer was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter according to police.
The fatal crash occurred about 12:45 p.m. near the CarMax at 4100 Inland Empire Blvd., Sgt. Jeff Higbee of the Ontario Police Department confirmed to KTLA.
A 28-year-old from Union City, Alex Demetro, was driving the Corvette when he lost control and collided with a tree, killing the 43-year-old salesman, Higbee said.
Witnesses said the Corvette was being driven at a high rate of speed, and the driver lost control before crashing into a tree.
The collision occurred on Mercedes Lane south of Councours Street, a couple blocks from the CarMax.
Demetro was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence of drugs.
The CarMax salesman was from Montclair, California and was transported in critical condition to San Antonio Regional Hospital, where he died.
