This week has been busy with numerous sightings of 2020 mid-engine Corvettes out testing in various corners of the country.
Thanks to George Kenner, a San Diego, California real estate broker who just happened to be out in Yuma, Arizona, he captured some fantastic video footage on his iPhone of a fleet of C8 mid-engine Corvettes out testing with a 2019 Corvette riding shotgun behind them.
What’s really exciting to see is GM President, Mark Reuss riding shotgun in the passenger seat of one of the mid-engine Corvettes.
I had a chance to meet Mark Reuss during the media event held for the official unveiling of the C7 Corvette back in January of 2013.
Reuss is not only a performance enthusiast, but like the rest of the Corvette Engineering and Development team, he has an intense passion for the Corvette.
When Is It Coming? What Do The Rumors Tell Us?
Unlike the rest of the automotive media and blog outlets who love to post ridiculous rumors posted in forums and passed down from sources like “my mother’s father’s grandmother’s Cribbage opponent said…”, here at the Corvette Action Center, we prefer to try and post facts rather than click-bait with the soul purpose of driving traffic to our site.
With that said, seeing GM President, Mark Reuss riding in the passenger seat of a mid-engine Corvette prototype is not evidence that the C8 Corvette is going to be unveiled suddenly.
Does it mean the C8 platform is getting closer to production-ready? Yes, but as far as an official unveiling date, or even official acknowledgement by GM that the C8 Corvette exists – we have nothing.
Of course, we do have people posting on forums who heard from that woman’s Cribbage opponent that the mid-engine Corvette will be unveiled in December.
And of course, the automotive media world thinks that the second coming of Christ has been announced because a couple days ago, Kerbeck Chevrolet in New Jersey announced that they are now accepting deposits for the mid-engine Corvette. So what?
As we reported in a previous article here at the CAC, back in September of last year, several select Chevrolet dealerships were introduced to the mid-engine Corvette, and some of those dealerships have been accepting deposits on orders for the mid-engine Corvette for over a year now. So the fact that Kerbeck Chevrolet announced that they are now accepting deposits, means squat.
When this new Corvette will be unveiled is anyone’s best guess. It could be this summer, or in the fall, or in December, or even at the North American International Auto Show in January of 2020. We just don’t know, and while it’s fun to speculate and run wild with the he-said, she-said rumors, we prefer to deal in facts and reputable sources. As soon as we have some concrete information, we’ll post it here.
In the meantime, enjoy the video taken by George Kenner. It’s a little long, with a lot of fluff in the beginning and middle, but it’s enjoyable to hear his comments about what he saw. If you fast-forward toward the end of the video, you’ll see Mark Reuss in the passenger seat. Enjoy!
