Thanks to our friends at MacMulkin Chevrolet of Nashua, New Hampshire, we now have some, close-up photos of the 2020 Corvette in Rapid Blue with the Tension / Twilight Blue Dipped interior.
When you first see this color, it’s definitely…brilliant in the sun! Although it’s definitely not a color for everyone, it’s interesting to note that the color changes as you walk around the car quickly changing to between various shades of blue as the degree of light hits the creases and curves of the body.

As you can tell from the photos, it’s almost a difficult color to photograph. Even though it’s a non-metallic color, it’s extremely bright when looking at it head-on in the sun and then darkens considerably out of the sun. As a result, a digital camera tends to have a hard time capturing the true color.
Back in late April, the National Corvette Museum held their annual bash virtually due to the Coronavirus pandemic. During the virtual telecast, Corvette Chief Engineer, Tadge Juechter and Bowling Green Assembly Plant manager Kai Spande, presented preliminary production numbers based upon accepted orders for each color as of May 1st, 2020. As you can see from the slide, Rapic Blue is sitting comfortably in the middle making up approximately 6% of the orders.
Tension / Twilight Blue Dipped Interior
Taking a look at the interior, we really love the Tension / Twilight Blue Dipped leather. As soon as you open the door, you’re greeted by a wonderfully strong scent of fresh leather. The dark blue leather components are complimented nicely by the contrasting Tension blue parts.

Rapid Blue vs. Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic
Luckily, this Rapid Blue 2020 Corvette arrived with a 2020 Corvette in Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic. Big difference!
As you can see, the Rapid Blue is a flat, in-your-face shade of blue, while the Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic is deeper and more in-depth thanks to the metallic flake.
We are still blown away by the quality of the interior on this new generation of Corvette. Unlike a lot of automotive journalists over the years, we didn’t really have too many criticisms of the Corvette’s interior. It’s our opinion, that C5 generation had one of the worst in terms of quality and plastic content compared to other generations.
In the C8, the quality is absolutely top-notch with not a hint of plastic anywhere. Fit and finish are fantastic and the comfort and ergonomics are superb.
Now that we’ve seen the new Rapid Blue color in person, it’s definitely an interesting color, but a bit too bold for us. Given the choice, we’d opt for the Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic. And that’s ok! Color is a personal choice and for those customers that decided to go with Rapid Blue, you’re going to love it!
