Chevrolet Shares Original Designs That Led to the 2021 Corvette Indy Pace Car

This Sunday, the 2021 Corvette will take to the track as the official pace car for the Indianapolis 500 and Chevrolet has now revealed the original design sketches that served as the inspiration

Chevrolet designer Adam Barry shares original renderings that led to the final design of the official pace car for the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500, a 2021 Chevrolet Corvette hardtop convertible driven by Danica Patrick.  Adam, who also designed the Shock and Steel Special Edition package used on the 50 Camaro convertible Indy 500 festival vehicles, notes a few of his favorite features about this Corvette pace car:

  • This Indy 500 pace car is the only mid-engine Corvette Stingray to feature the Corvette crossed flags on the rear decklid, in place of a Stingray badge on production vehicles.
  • The safety strobe lights are designed into the Corvette’s nacelles behind the passenger compartment, providing a custom touch with full functionality.
  • The Stingray silhouette sketch emblem on the side ground effects is unique to this car and was adapted from the original brand silhouette sketch to reflect the convertible shape with a high-wing spoiler.
  • Knowing the Sky Cool Gray/Strike Yellow interior would be on display in the convertible, the exterior Arctic White color and accents were chosen to complement the cabin. The Strike Yellow interior color is featured on the stripes, spoiler, ground effects and brake calipers for a cohesive look.

The Shock and Steel Special Edition package (without Indy graphics) is available on the 2022 Camaro in Summit White and Satin Steel Metallic as seen at Indy, and Shock and Black as well.
