2021 Corvettes - Jack Cooper Transport

After last week’s rumor that contract negotiations between General Motors and Jack Cooper Transport, did not go well, we have just learned from our sources, that Jack Cooper Transport will be closing it’s doors after 97 years as a transport company for GM.

According to our sources, Jack Cooper had taken accepted a lump sum of money from another company, in the form of a bailout.  That company started applying pressure on Jack Cooper to start paying the loan back.  In order for Jack Cooper to do so, they would have had to raise the cost of transport per unit.  When they approached GM and Ford with the request for increase, Ford said “no way” and GM followed suit.

From what we’re hearing this morning, Jack Cooper has told its drivers that they are ceasing all operations and closing its doors.  Some drivers are showing up at the union hall in Bowling Green trying to find out what’s going on.  Others are concerned about whether or not they can even access their trucks to remove their belongings.

As it stands right now, everything is up in the air and logistics need to be worked out.

All of this is hearsay at this point, but from two different sources.

Regardless, this may put a damper on Corvettes being brought to dealers from the factory until GM can figure out what other transport companies will pick up the slack.

My husband has hauled Corvettes for a long time. He says it is “a whole other animal” . It will be interesting to see how many vettes are damaged while inexperienced drivers try to learn how to do it. GM and Jack Cooper as well as the Teamsters have left these driver hung out to dry. It’s disgusting.
