Salina, New York – One moment, Keith Haughton and his friend were driving in Keith’s 2016 Corvette Z06 down I-81 south through the Town of Salina, and the next minute, they were on the side of the road with the Corvette engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly arrived and put out the flames, but the car still suffered a massive amount of damage.
“It took about a minute. It got worse as time went on but the fire department was there within three or four minutes and the car was totaled that fast,” says Haughton.
Haughton said that his Corvette began to feel like it was slowing down and the suspension warning light suddenly came on. Soon after, the car lost power, and Haughton pulled his Corvette off to the side of the road and realized it was on fire.
Luckily he and his friend were able to escape the car without injury, but his prized Corvette was pretty much destroyed.
While investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, Haughton reached out to Chevrolet, but has yet to hear back from them regarding any potential recalls that would have been applicable to his Corvette.
