CAUGHT! Best Video Yet of the C7 Corvette ZR1

This month, there’s been no short supply of spy photos and videos of the upcoming C7 Corvette ZR1, however, this past week, Autoblog may have captured the best video we’ve seen yet of this up and coming super beast.

A couple of weeks ago, one of their guys was out filming for one of their Facebook Live Drives, as a Corvette ZR1 convertible prototype came up on them from behind and passed.  The driver gave chase for about a mile until they lost it.  This video is even better!

We can easily see the totally redesigned front bumper sucking air in through gaping vent holes in the front, and the front air deflector looks like something straight off the C7.R Corvette race car.

That hood is clearly covering something nasty requiring the extra height as seen in the hood bulge and what looks to be larger vents for heat extraction than what we currently see on the C7 Corvettes.

Looking down at the wheels, we see the same 5-star shaped wheels with massive brake calipers that we have consistently been seeing on all of the prototypes.  We really like the design of these wheels and hope that GM brings them to production with the car.

As it stands right now, GM still has yet to even confirm the existence of this beast.  Many folks thought for sure that the car would be announced at one of the ALMS races this summer, or the Corvettes at Carlisle event that just took place this past weekend.  Much to the disappointment of many, the ZR1 was absent from GM’s tent on the Carlisle Fairgrounds.

Originally, it was our prediction that the car would be unveiled sometime very soon as a late production 2018 model.  However, with the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant, now shut down until at least, the beginning of November, we believe this ZR1 will be officially unveiled in Detroit in January at the North American International Auto Show as a 2019 model.  Quite possibly, it could be unveiled along side the much rumored mid-engine Corvette, but that may be a stretch.

In either case, it’s our belief that the 2019 model year, may be the last year for the C7 Corvette generation and the ZR1 will be this Corvette generation’s ultimate swan song.

For now, head on over to Autoblog and enjoy the video!
