New paint shop facility at Bowling Green Corvette Assembly adds 870,000 square feet to the facility.

According to the Bowling Green Daily News, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority has given preliminary approval Thursday to $3 million in incentives that would allow General Motors to add 270 jobs to the Corvette Assembly Plant.

The proposed project is expected to cost $153.9 million and would add “new technologies and processes to meet increasing customer demand,” according to documents filed with KEDFA.

The possible jobs would be expected to pay an average of $21 an hour including benefits, according to the documents.

The Bowling Green facility assembles the Chevrolet Corvette, and GM is constructing a large new paint room at the plant. In April, the final piece of steel was installed in the $439 million facility, which is expected to be complete in April 2017. With that project, GM said it was able to retain 150 jobs that might have gone elsewhere.

The new paint shop that is currently under construction at the assembly plant, will add 870,000 square feet to the facility.
