As an update to our post yesterday regarding the devastation caused by several tornadoes that swept through Kentucky during the early morning hours on Saturday, Corvette production has been halted at the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly plant for at least the week of December 13th.
According to the Corvette plant’s Rachel Bagshaw:
“We can confirm that the fire that took place as a result of the tornado activity at Bowling Green Assembly plant early Saturday morning (December 11) has caused damage to the facility, including the roof and an employee entrance.
Maintaining a safe work environment for plant employees is our top priority. Therefore, we are cancelling production on first and second shift the week of December 13 as our trained teams work to get tooling, equipment and the facility space up to standard.”
The NCM Motorsports Park is also closed today with the following statement attributed to them, “It is with great disappointment that we announce the suspension of all activities at the NCM Motorsports Park. This includes all Touring Laps/Experience, Twinkle at the Track, and then Run, Run Rudolph 5k. Like many businesses in our community, the NCM Motorsports Park sustained heavy damage from the overnight weather event, making it temporarily unsafe to welcome guests. The MSP team is working to evaluate the damage caused by the storms and to develop a plan for repairs and reopening. We will continue to update our website and social media channels with the latest information.”

The State of Kentucky is currently in a state of emergency after several tornadoes traveled across the state 1:00 to 2:00 AM on Saturday morning.
One of the tornadoes, an EF2, hit the city of Bowling Green causing significant damage to homes and a reported fire outbreak at both the National Corvette Museum and the Corvette Assembly Plant.
According to an Accuweather report:
Also early Saturday, a train derailed and struck several houses near Earlington and Barnsley, Kentucky, around the time a tornado passed through the area. People were reported trapped in their homes in Bowling Green, Kentucky, due to the tornado, with a fire breaking out at the National Corvette Museum and multiple injuries reported.
Contrary to the Accuweather report, a fire has not been officially confirmed at the National Corvette Museum and it’s believed to have not suffered any damage.
A small amount of damage behind the Assembly Plant was confirmed, however, no one was injured at either the NCM or the Corvette Assembly Plant.
