General Motors Media Press ReleaseFOR RELEASE: March 14, 2001 Corvette Racing Adds Pruett: Veteran Joins GM's Successful Endurance TeamDETROIT - Corvette Racing announced today that driver Scott Pruett would replace Chris Kneifel who leaves to take up new duties as Chief Steward of CART's FedEx Championship series immediately following the Superflo 12 Hours of Sebring, March 17th. Immediate testing "We're very pleased to be able to get a proven champion like Scott," said Corvette Racing Program Manager Doug Fehan. "He has ample experience in both endurance racing and in cars in Corvette's classification. He will be an immediate contributor to the future success of our race team." Pruett has winning record "The chance to join a proven racing team at a time when their fortunes are clearly on the rise is something every driver dreams about," Pruett said. "Joining a well-knit team like Corvette Racing with drivers like Andy Pilgrim, Ron Fellows, Kelly Collins, Franck Freon and Johnny O'Connell in equipment like the Corvette C5-R is awesome." Corvette goes for three in a row at Sebring Corvette Racing heads to Sebring, Fla., with an overall win at the last month's Rolex 24 at Daytona and a GTS class win in the American Le Mans Series opener at Texas Motor Speedway, March 4. Following Sebring, the team will travel to France for the open test day on May 6, in preparation for the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, June 16 - 17. Chevrolet racing programs are production-based The Chevrolet Corvette C5-R race program continues Chevrolet's tradition of racing production-based vehicles and racing to "improve the breed." The engineers working on the Corvette C5-R racecar work closely with production car engineers to ensure that racecar "learnings" impact present and future Corvettes.
