StreakingCorvette C5-Rs Head for Mosport

Fellows/O'ConnellSeek GTS Win #4

DETROIT - With three wins in four American Le Mans Series races contested to date, the two-car Corvette Racing team heads over the border to Mosport International Raceway, Bowmanville, Ontario, seeking the third consecutive and fourth win in the 2001 season. The 2-hour and 45 minute road race will be seen on NBC and Eurosport Television Sunday, August 19.

In addition to the three ALMS wins, Team Corvette has scored 1st and 2nd place finishes at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le mans. Both events are world-class races but do not carry ALMS points.

Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell will drive the No. 3 GM Goodwrench Service Plus Corvette C5-R coming off their August 5 win in Portland, Ore.

The Fellows/O'Connell duo has recorded two additional ALMS wins at Texas and SearsPoint. Currently 1 and 2 in driver points, they were also on the winning teamsat Daytona with Chris Kneifel and Franck Freon and at Le Mans with Scott Pruett.

Fellows, from near by Mississauga, Ontario, returns to Mosport following his 'weekend off' at the wheel of Joe Nemechek's No. 87 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the Winston Cup race, August 12, at Watkins Glen, NY

Andy Pilgrim and Kelly Collins will drive the No. 4 Corvette at Mosport. This driving combination is 3rd in driver points by virtue of a string of secondplace GTS finishes at Daytona, Sebring, Le Mans and Sears Point.

The car failed to finish the Texas race in March due to a crash and was disqualified at Portland following post race inspection where the 2nd place finish was disallowed due being underweight.

In GTS Manufacturer standing, Corvette is in first place with three wins and 101points, while Daimler- Chrysler with 81 is second and Saleen is third with one win and 68 points.

The Corvette team will be joined at Mosport by the two car Cadillac LMP 01 team. Drivers Wayne Taylor, Max Angelelli, Emmanuel Collard and Christophe Tinseau will compete in the prototype division powered by the Cadillac Northstar system.

Following Mosport, the two-car Corvette team will finish out the balance of the ALMS schedule by entering events at Mid-Ohio, Laguna Seca, Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta and ending the season at Charlotte in October.

The Chevrolet Corvette C5-R race program continues the tradition of racing production-based vehicles and racing to improve the breed. The engineers who work on the race program work closely with Corvette production engineers to ensure that present and future Corvettes continue to earn thehonor of being America' s Performance Icon.

GM's racing heritage was recently highlighted when, during the weekend of August 7-8-9, major race wins were recorded by Chevrolet Silverado full-sized pickup trucks in the NASCAR Craftsman series, Monte Carlo in NASCAR Busch and Winston Cups eries, and by Corvette in the American Le Mans series.
