Corvette Racing - Corvettes Qualify 1 - 2 in GTS for Mid-Ohio American Le Mans Series

American Le Mans Series - MID-OHIO Round No. 3 of 10

ALMS QUALIFYING SESSION

• Weather: Humid 89 degrees (F) overcast
• Entry: 9 LMP900 - 6 LMP675 - 6 GTS - 10 GT - 31 TOTAL
• Track Length: 2.25 miles
• Track temp during session : 110 degrees (F)

For the third time in three ALMS races Ron Fellows, No. 3 GM Goodwrench C5-R Chevrolet Corvette, will start on the GTS pole position and 10th overall. Teammate Andy Pilgrim in the No. 4 sister car will start second in GTS and 13th overall. In third position in GTS and 14th overall is the No. 0 Ferrari 550 Maranello.

"That was close," said Fellows following the qualifying for tomorrow's 2 hour 45 minute race. "Generally after a Trans-Am race like the one that preceded our qualifying session, the track isn't as good as it was before. I had a very clear race track and some of the guys elected to stay in so it worked out for us. Andy (Pilgrim) got real close and the Ferrari is right there, too. It all worked out for us today and I think we've got a little bit left for tomorrow."

In three races this season, Fellows and co-driver Johnny O'Connell have won two of two ALMS races, Sebring and Sears Point. Fellows, O'Connell, joined by a third team driver, Oliver Gavin, finished first in GTS at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Pilgrim and co-driver Kelly Collins finished second at Sears Point and second at Le Mans with third driver Franck Freon.

Corvette is defending GTS class champion in the American Le Mans Series winning six of 10 races in 2001 plus Daytona and le Mans 24 hour races.

TRANS-AM Butch Leitzinger in the No. 88 Chevrolet Corvette takes the win in Saturday's feature race.
