GM Media Press ReleaseFor Release: 2005-10-07 duPont REGISTRY's Annual Exotic Car Buyers Guide names 505-hp Corvette Z06 "Best Bang for the Buck" among 'Best' exotic supercars for 2006DETROIT - The duPont REGISTRY(TM) Exotic Car Buyers Guide 2006 has named the 505-hp Corvette Z06 the "Best Bang for the Buck" in its annual special issue that is focused on exotic vehicles from the top manufacturers in the world. Available on newsstands now, the edition introduces seven "Best" Awards for the sexiest and most desirable exotic cars for 2006. The issue describes the Corvette Z06, which will achieve 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds while still in first gear, as "the hottest sports car of 2006 with its 7-liter V8 that delivers more than 500 hp and a top speed of 198 mph--all for just $65,800. With its carbon-fiber fenders and outrageous 10-spoke alloy wheels, the Z06 is the excitement bargain of the century." For all its race-inspired functionality, the Corvette Z06 also is designed to be refined as a daily driver with a sophisticated and comfortable interior and generous cargo volume. The Exotic Car Buyers Guide distills the essence of each award-winning exotic with a specification list that compares price, horsepower, torque, 0-60 times and top speeds. The duPont REGISTRY(TM) editors, experts on the exotic car market, also used the opinions of their readers in making their decisions. Developed alongside the Corvette C6.R race car, the Corvette Z06 uses advanced lightweight materials typically found only in the most exotic supercars. Use of weight-saving materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum, titanium and magnesium give the 3,132-pound car a highly competitive weight-to-power ratio and helps the Z06 achieve impressive fuel economy of 26 mpg on the highway and 16 mpg in the city, which means that Corvette continues the tradition started by the sixth-generation model to be the only car with 400 horsepower or more to avoid the federal gas guzzler tax. "Corvette is a global icon for world-class sports car performance at an incredible value, and offering the fastest production Corvette ever at this price is another testament to that reputation," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. "When you compare the Corvette Z06 performance stats to other supercars, you see numerous examples where you're getting better performance with Corvette for as little as one-third the sticker price of the competition." "We reviewed the latest exotics from A to Z and feel that the awarded models combine the very best in technology, performance and handling, with the ultimate in styling and luxury," says Tom duPont, Publisher of the duPont REGISTRY(TM) Exotic Car Buyers Guide. "Today's market for exotics continues to expand as manufacturers answer enthusiasts' demands for horsepower, cutting-edge innovation and dramatic designs. The awarded cars pace the market as the pinnacle of today's supercars." About General Motors About duPont Publishing, Inc. CONTACT(S): |
