1968 Corvette Production Numbers & Performance Numbers

Production and performance numbers for the 1968 Corvette:

Model Year Highlights

  • 1968 was the first year for the Corvette to come equipped with dual removable roof panels and a removal rear window.
  • Although much of the chassis and mechanical components carried over from the 1967, the 1968 body style was completely redesigned.
  • The automatic transmission used for the 1968 model year was now a 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic instead of the two-speed Powerglide used in previous model years.
  • Unique to the 1968 model year was a special door opening system that consisted of a separate release button and a spring-loaded finger plate.
  • This was the first year for a new cabin ventilation system called "Astro-Ventilation", windshield wipers that were hidden under a vacuum-actuated door panel at the base of the windshield, and a special fiber-optic light monitoring system.
  • The battery moved from the engine compartment to behind the seats in the interior in order to provide better overall weight distribution and increased space in the engine compartment.
  • Wheels for the 1968 model were 7-inches wide and unique to this model year.
